The very next morning after we arrived to NYC, I decided to go to Hoboken, NJ to visit the famous bakery and try some of those intriguing desserts featured on the Cake Boss. I told Lisa where I am heading and she decided to come along despite my warning that we may be waiting in line for some time (the website advised on average of two hours wait, and Lisa doesn't like lines). Fifteen minutes ride on the PATH (NJ Transit) from the corner of 33rd Street and 6th Avenue took us to the Hoboken.
A friendly gentleman directed us towards the bakery, which is recognised by a line outside. Just being there made me exiting, and anticipation of what is there to come put a big and happy smile on my face. Line moved surprisingly quick, and just twenty minutes later we were inside the Carlos Bakery, the famous and the best.
It is exactly as I've seen it on the TV show "Cake Boss": little, clean, and perfumed with a smell of freshly baked biscottis, cupcakes, tiramisu, cookies...
Tiramisu: elegant and tastes as good as it looks...
Cannoli shells filled after you order it.
Cannolis, Napoleon, and tiramisu packed in a signature box
Assortment of cookies
When our number was called we ordered: tiramisu, Napoleon, biscotti, cookies, and their famous freshly filled cannolis, that we ate outside the bakery, sitting on the bench and enjoying the view of the Manhattan.
Needless to say that cannolis tasted fantastico, as everything else we had!
It was a dream, an adventure to remember, and a taste hard to forget.
Everything in the bakery is made from scratch with no artificial flavorings or preservatives, and you can really taste the difference.
As you know, I am not a big sweet eater, but I would definitely go back next time I am in the area. It's worth waiting in line! :)

Oh wow! I love that show! Did you end up waiting 2 hrs?ReplyDelete
No, Jess, we were in the store in twenty minutes. They have a well organized system there... :)Delete
Oh I'm so jealous you got to go there.. I love the show:)ReplyDelete
I didn't know about the show until about three months ago when I bought the book and found on the Netflix about 100 episodes, I watched it all in about 3 weeks and fell in love with baking, pastry making, and Carlo's Bakery. So when I learned I am going to NY, this place was on top of my list... :)Delete
I have seen long lines outside this shop and hence never ever eaten there. Will try and go there the next time I am in NYC.ReplyDelete
All of it sounds yummy!
It is really-really good, they set such a high bar with their fresh ingredients and made from scratch pastries and desserts, that I don't know if I will be able to eat anything less then that for quite some time... :)Delete
Ooooo Cake Boss!!! Even in Europe he is a big succes. Reading about your visit makes me even want to go more :D. Beautiful pictures of the mouthwatering desserts, cookies and the cannoli look so fine. Yum!ReplyDelete
That is a great news that he is a big succes in Europe as he is Italian and is very proud his heritage. Those desserts are absolutely delicious, not overpowered by tonns of sugar and artificial ingredients. It tastes fantastico! :) My son said that cookies tasted like the one his grandmother makes, and she makes best cookies in the world..:) And I have never tried better cannolis: filling is silky, incased in a perfect crust of cannoli shell... mmm, I want more, and I am not even a sweet eater! :)Delete
Everything looks so decadent! I would love to visit this little shop, and my husband would spend a small fortune in there.ReplyDelete
Della, start saving now, it is totally worth every penny! :)Delete
Going to the bakery must have been the highlight of your day. All of the desserts look beautiful.ReplyDelete
Hi Karen, thanks for coming here today. I alway enjoy when you visit me...:) Yes, bakery was an amazing stop on our journey. It was worth staying in line (not for long though, just 20 minutes) because the reward was priceless... :)Delete
I would have had cannolis too! I look like a great bakery!ReplyDelete
Thanks Kim, Yes, it is a fantastic bakery. Cannilis and turamisu are my favorite, although everything tastes great. :)Delete
Ohh why did I read this before I had lunch today?! Stomach.growling. I'm not usually a big sweet person but cannoli's are kind of my favorite dessert ever. Thanks for sharing your trip and hope to go there myself sometime soon (hopefully!)ReplyDelete
I am a bit confused now: are you Emily or Ada? I visited your blog which I enjoyed a lot. Thanks for stopping by! Come back to see what other places in NYC we went to. :)Delete
20 minutes? I'd do that. Two hours? Not a chance! Although it sounds as if it would have been worth a 2 hour wait. Hoboken is a great place with a lot of really nice restaurants. Right before we moved to Florida I worked in Northern New Jersey for a year (this is after working in NYC), and I always Hoboken. Thanks so much for sharing all your adventures.ReplyDelete
Hi John, Ummm, I would wait for two hours though... It's worth it! :) When I was in NY i realized how much I miss Seattle... funny?!Delete
Oh wow, the Cake Boss rules! The cannolis look awesome!ReplyDelete
Yes, Cake Boss is The Boss! :) Thanks for stopping by here, I haven't seen you in a while...:)Delete
This is an amazing bakery! I wish we had even a 'good' bakery where I live. I would love all of these wonderful delights...but would also love the good bagels I'm sure you can find in NYC, too!ReplyDelete
You know, Dianne, we haven't had a bagel this time... Tha's fine as we tried many other good things. Come back to see where we went. :)Delete
Excuse me...I realize this was in NJ!!!ReplyDelete
Yes, it's in NJ, which is 15 minute across from Manhattan. :)Delete
Ooh I was watching this tv show on the plane! I wondered what the cakes actually taste like-good to know that they taste great! :DReplyDelete
Ooh and aahh, and aww... those are the only sounds what I was able to produce while eating the cannolis. I am not a big sweet eater, and usually dessert goes unnoticed by me. We rarely order desserts when we go out as it has way too much sugar and you taste nothing but sugar. My mother's desserts, on the other hand, taste like cake when she makes cake, and like cookies when she makes cookies. When I make desserts, I cut sugar in half or even more. This bakery was on my list for a few reason: it's been in business for over 100 years, Buddy is a forth generation Italian baker, people wouldn't stay in line to get pastries if they tasted the same as in the shop around the corner... And I wasn't disappointed...:) Thanks for coming Lorraine! :)Delete
This would be a bakery I would love to find when on a vacation! YUM! Take care, TerraReplyDelete
Oh yes, this is a five star bakery! Thanks Terra for commenting...:)Delete

I was looking at the map how far we were from you, is't quite a drive, isn't it?Delete
Wooooow, Carlo's bakery shop. Woooooooow. I watch him on a TV. Both the sweet cake boss series and the savoury version with Carlo cooking at home. I so much adore him for his attitude and passion and great cake ideas. I guess that if I visited his bakery I would buy at least half of the cakes and cookies or I would simply go mad ;-)ReplyDelete
Lol, after you read my post on sweets, you will understand me better. :) I was able to take photos without having a sweet attack :)Delete
